First guitar build pictures:
This is the mahogany I got for the body of the guitar. Some guy at Woodsource planed it to about 1 7/8 in. thick for me for $5. The two pieces on the sides are Hondurian (I probably spelled that wrong) mahogany and the middle piece is quartersawn African mahogany. It is really too nice of a piece to use for a body, I should use it for a neck, but Im not ready to make a neck yet. Since the wood is three colors, I am going to put a solid color finish over it.
Mahogany is a common guitar wood, and produces a rich, warm, midrangey sound with good sustain. It is pretty heavy. Of course, wood is not uniform in density, so some mahogany guitars sounds better than other ones.

David N. picked out this nice looking piece of soft maple for his guitar for about $25. Maple is the most common wood for necks, but is uncommon for guitar bodies, but not unheard of. It makes a brighter sound, with good sustain, and is usually very heavy! (He likes it a little too much)
Yesterday we cut out the bodies, more pics to come. So far this project has been great, i would encourage anyone thinking about doing it to give it a try.
